Dialogue from Fatal Funds, Chapter 3:
“Elaina, money is to enjoy. Stop being such a penny pincher. Sandy says we’ll be fine.”
“Did it ever occur to you that Sandy might be wrong? His financial projections look great, but that’s only if our portfolio grows by ten percent. And guess what, in five years, we haven’t had one year of ten percent growth. We took a loss last year, remember? I don’t know if you should be golfing so much with Sandy. If we decide to leave him and invest our money with a different planner, it’ll be harder to unhook him from our personal lives.”
“Elaina, he knows a lot about investing. He and I talk a lot about stock, bonds, and how to trade while we’re at the club. He’s really got the inside edge on the market.”
“Really? Does he? How do you know that, Ben? I can’t put my finger on it, but he seems more aloof lately, like he’s distracted or something. I like him fine, but I doubt he’s grown our investments like he promised.”
